This course introduces students to the basic elements of art technique and design. Students will learn to start at the abstract idea and work through to the conceptual design and colours. The course also focuses on a range of textile techniques, wherein students will experiment with different stitches, fabrics and threads to produce a simple line, isolated composite and textural stitches. The curriculum covers the latest techniques used in the fashion industry, with regards to embroidery design, and this will enable students to gain a more dynamic and practical view of the creative possibilities. At the end of the course, students are encouraged to create a portfolio of their work demonstrating free machining and surface decoration.
